M27 junction 10 upgrades to move forward after backing from Buckland
Preparatory work has now begun on the M27 junction 10 upgrades, while the agreed final funding package is being concluded between Hampshire County Council and Buckland Group, the Master Developer of Welborne, and Local Planning Authority Fareham Borough Council, supported by Homes England.
A spokesperson for Buckland Group, the Master Developer of Welborne, said:
“The M27 junction 10 upgrades are critical to improving connectivity and traffic flow in the local area, connecting Fareham as well as Welborne and the A32 to the M27 in both directions.
“To advance this important regional infrastructure project, Buckland has agreed to underwrite over 95% of a £100m plus funding package, supported by Housing Infrastructure funding from Homes England. Hampshire County Council will deliver the junction 10 scheme, with National Highways.
“The upgrade will be delivered within the next two years, during the first phase of Welborne, and it means all of the 6,000 planned homes can now be built in the future.”
A spokesperson for Hampshire County Council said:
“It is vital that the necessary road infrastructure at M27 junction 10 is in place to support the growth of the new community at Welborne and residents in the wider area. We are pleased that preparatory work has now started on site to enable the project to quickly mobilise once legal agreements are finalised.”
A spokesperson for Fareham Borough Council said:
“Our position has always been that it is essential for the necessary infrastructure to be in place to support the delivery of Welborne Garden Village with the M27 Junction 10 upgrade being the single largest investment required, and so the progress being made on concluding the funding arrangements to enable the delivery of this scheme is very welcome.”
